The shadows she saw on the lawn inspired her to spend months developing an approach that in contrast did not portray the object she chose onto canvas. When objects live or a thing that can be eaten, like humans and fruits, they become a painting of their own. The style that Alexa Meade paints has an ephemeral quality, and the only thing remaining of Alexa Meade is her photograph. The painting and photography techniques are closely coordinated and result in a two-dimensional, flat area that is trompe l'oeil. Only certain areas of the photo, like the hair or eyes, show the three-dimensional dimension. At times, Meade integrates her painted models into the three-dimensional space around them, allowing them to interact within this self-created world. The distinctions between performance photography, and installation are thus dissolved.
